William Madison "W.M." Barnes Jr., 69, died Sunday, July 13, 1997 at his home in the Number 8 community.
A son of the late William Madison Barnes, Sr. and Minnie Larue Barnes of Number 8, he was born May 1, 1928 at the home of his parents.
Two sisters, Mabel Green and Helen Gray, also preceded him in death.
On June 8, 1946, Mr. Barnes was united in marriage to Wilma Ruth Nance in Blytheville, Ark. They have resided in the Number 8 community, where they have farmed for the past 31 years.
He was a member and elder of the Church of Christ in Steele, Mo.
Mr. Barnes leaves his wife, Wilma Barnes, of the Number 8 community; One daughter, Mary B. Pickey and her husband, Aubrey, of Brighton, Tenn.; One son, Harold Barnes and his wife, Carol, of the Number 8 community; Four grandchildren: Scott Pickey, Chris Pickey, Lora Barnes and Andrew Barnes; One sister, Hazel Caldwell, of Memphis, Tenn.; Two brothers-in-law; Charles Nance and his wife, Mary, and James Nance and his wife, Pat; Two sisters-in-law: Rhena Lindsey and her husband, Jerome, and Joyce Fairfield and her husband, Jim; and Many nephews and nieces.
Funeral services for Mr. Barnes were held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 16, 1997, at the Church of Christ in Steele, Mo., with David Webb officiating.
Burial was at the Number 8 Cemetery with John W. German Funeral Home in charge.
