Funeral services for Mary Eda Buys, an 80 year old pioneer of Southeast Missouri were held at the Church of Christ in Steele, Sunday, January 27, 1957. Bro. Marvin Rainey conducted the services and interment was at the Number Eight Cemetery.
Mrs. Buys was preceded in death ten years ago by her husband, J.L. Buys.
Her survivors include one sister, Mrs. Isaac McKay, Sr. of Steele; two brothers, Rafe Ash of Cooter and George Ash of Fort Worth, Texas; five sons: Boyd of Denton, Earl of Delphos, Ohio, Edgar of Detroit, Michigan, Tom and Percy of Steele; two daughters, Mrs. Phillip Lambert and Mrs. Cecil Brown of Steele; 19 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.

J.L. Buys, 71, well known farmer and landowner in the Denton community west of Steele, died in a hospital in Blytheville Sunday morning, March 23, after an illness of several days. Funeral services were held at the Church of Christ in Steele Monday afternoon with the pastor, the Rev. W.I. Sharpe officiating.
Mr. Buys, a native of Osceola, Ark., had lived in Pemiscot County for many years and was well known throughout this county and in Mississippi County, Ark. He is survived by his wife, five sons and two daughters. They are: Edgar Buys of Detroit, Tom Buys of Concord, Mich., Percy, Boyd and Earl Buys of Steele; Mrs. Edna Lambert and Mrs. Bessie Brown, both of the Steele community.
