Mrs. Gertie Lester, 77 year old resident of 902 Warren Street, Poplar Bluff, formerly of Holland and Denton, died at 4:30 a.m. October 1, 1960 at Doctor's Hospital in Poplar Bluff. She had been a patient there for the past two weeks.
Born May 11, 1883 in Dyer County, Tennessee, Mrs. Lester was married to the late L. B. Lester, who preceded her in death in 1942.
Mrs. Lester was a member of the South Poplar Bluff General Baptist Church.
Among the survivors are one son, Joe Lester of Holland; four daughters, Mrs. Herbert Chunn, Stark City, Mo.; Mrs. Loyd Warren, Raytown, Mo., Mrs. Lynn Green and Mrs. John Van Noy, both of Poplar Bluff; two sisters, Mrs. Virgie Dillon, Kennett, and Mrs. Boyd Williams of Hot Springs, Arkansas. Mrs. Lester also leaves nine grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Monday at the South Poplar Bluff General Baptist Church, with Rev. Wilbert Allen and Rev. Curtis Eaker officiating. Burial was in Memorial Gardens under the direction of the Greer-Coy-Fitch Funeral Chapel.
