James A. Smith, 71, a resident of the Elk Creek community, died Wednesday night, Sept. 10, at a clinic at Salem where he had been a patient five days.
A retired rural mail carrier, he was a veteran of World War I. He is survived by his wife, Faye; a daughter, Mrs. Delpha Kile of Elk Creek; three brothers, Jud, of Elk Creek, Ed of Houston, and Jess, of Des Moines, Ia.; a sister, Mrs. Ollie Norris of the state of Washington; and five grandchildren.
Services were in Steely chapel at Elk Creek at 2:30 p.m. Saturday with Mrs. Sadie Miles and the Rev. J. K. Aichele officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
