Thomas Howard DePriest, long-time resident of Pemiscot County, died July 7, 1969 at the Pemiscot County Memorial Hospital in Hayti after a lengthy illness. He was 73.

Mr. DePriest moved to this county about 1900, and had lived in the Steele area since 1929 where he farmed until his retirement. He moved to Steele in 1964 where he made his home at 311 Sheeley Street.

Besides his farming interests, Mr. DePriest took time to coach area baseball teams and serve as a Deputy Sheriff and Township Constable for several years.

He was a member of the Baptist Church and Steele Oddfellows Lodge.

He leaves his wife, Mrs. Wilma DePriest of the home; five sons, Howard, Jr. of Shelby, Miss.; James of DeSoto, Mo.; Charles of Poplar Bluff; Larry of Steele and Robin of Steele; two daughters, Mrs. Richard (Ruby) Gruenwald of Memphis and Mrs. Allen (Cleo) Camp, also of Memphis. Also 17 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Funeral service was held Wednesday afternoon at the First Baptist Church in Steele with the Rev. Joe Smith officiating.

Pall bearers were Reuben Biggs, Sherley Lovins, Charles Ellis, Willard Jackson, Clifford Jackson, and John Holt.

Burial was at Mt. Zion cemetery with the John W. German Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Charles Holly DePriest, age 62 years, 11 months and 8 days, died suddenly of a heart attack March 10 at his home near Fisk, Missouri.
Final rites were held at the Steele Baptist Church Sunday at 2:00 p.m. Officiating were Rev. James F. McCrary, church pastor and Rev. Ray Crews of the Holland Baptist Church. Interment was in Mt. Zion Cemetery.
He leaves his wife, Mrs. Lattle Arnold DePriest of Fisk; a brother, Howard DePriest of Steele; two sisters Mrs. Leslie Sides of Hayti and Mrs. Jack Hart of Cleveland, Mississippi.
