James N. Ballentine, honored and revered citizen, passed away quietly Wednesday morning at his home in this city. He is survived by a daughter and wife. Interment was today in Little Prairie Cemetery.
Mr. Ballentine had been ill for some time, having had some operations some time ago but never fully recovered from these. It was thought at times that he would be up and with us again but a turn for the worse came last Saturday. But our Maker decided better and carried him away from strife and the affairs of life where he could rest in peace.
He was one of the most highly honored citizens of our community, interested at all times in the welfare of those around him and always taking a prominent part in civic affairs. And all regret that he had been carried from us, extending our sympathy to the bereaved family.
Mary Ann Ballentine passed away early this morning at her home on Main street. She had been ill for some time and her death was not wholly unexpected by the family.
Funeral services will be held at the Church of Christ at 2:30 Friday afternoon; Elders L.S. Thurmond and W.E. Chadwick will preach the funeral. German Undertaking Company in charge.
