Wayne Donald Cox, of Willow Springs, passed away Tuesday, March 21, 2017 at Cox South Medical Center in Springfield due to natural causes. Born on August 10, 1932
to Wayne and Mary (Whited) Cox, he was 84 years old.
Don grew up in the Willow Springs area, attended local schools, and graduated from Willow Springs High School . Following graduation, he took college courses at Rolla School of Engineering. Don proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and immediately reenlisted as a Reservist until his honorable discharge in September of 1956. On September 23, 1953 he married the love of his life, Mattie Davis, and to this union four children were born. Don liked to be busy, and his first job was with Dr. Pepper Bottling Company in West Plains. He was then employed by MoDot for 38 years designing highways until his retirement in 1996. In his spare time, he helped his dad by hauling posts. He also provided a tax service for many years and operated a local television and radio repair shop with Lester Hardman. He operated the sound system at the First Baptist Church for many years, and would record the Sunday Service on a cassette tape, then rush it over to the KUKU radio station to get it on the air on time.
Don is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, a stillborn infant, a stepson, one sister and one brother.
He is survived by three daughters: Jan Bradley and husband, Mike of Springfield ; Vicki Bullock and her husband, Shane of Fulton; Billie Dawn and fiancée, Jason Gish also of Springfield , and one son, Robb Cox and wife, Trina of West Plains. He is further survived by four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
The family requests memorial donations be made to the First Baptist Church and may be left at the funeral home.
