Steele, Mo.-Funeral services were held Sunday from the Church of Latter Day Saints in Hayti for Shirley Jean Walker, 4, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Warren Walker, who was killed in a truck-train accident last Thursday.
Services were conducted by an uncle, Elder Raymond Britton, of Caruthersville. Burial was in Mt. Zion Cemetery at Steele.
Shirley Jean was instantly killed when the pickup truck driven by her father stalled on the Frisco crossing at the National Alfalfa Mill plant south of Steele.
In the truck also were Mrs. Walker and their little son, Michael. Injuries thus far apparent to other are severe bruises and lacerations and a broken arm for the little boy.
Mr. Walker has been released from the Hayti hospital and Mrs. Walker is expected to be released in a few days. Their small boy will be released from a Memphis hospital this week.
Vision approaching from the west is almost obscured and the hum of the mill would confuse the noise of an approaching train.
Mr. Walker stated that they did not see nor hear the train until they were on the track and because they were driving slowly stalled the motor in trying to get clear. The truck was completely demolished.
Among those attending the funeral services were three great grandmothers, Mrs. Lelia Warren of Steele, Mrs. Sally Walker of Memphis, Tenn. and Mrs. Della Smith of Pascola, Mo.
