Final rites were held Monday, April 4, 1960, for William Arthur James of Denton, Missouri.
Mr. James died at Pemiscot County Hospital in Hayti on April 2. He had lived in this community for the past 55 years. Born in Kentucky on Octboer 28, 1889, he was 70 years, 5 months and 4 days of age.
Services were said from the Denton General Baptist Church at 2:00 p.m. Reverend L.C. Gleen of Frisbee, Mo., officiated with interment in Mt. Zion Cemetery. Pallbearers were Ted Kenley, Eugene Kellems, Bynum Hester, Troy Googe, Verlon Green and Buck James. John W. German Funeral Home of Steele was in charge.
Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Mary Ellen James of Denton; two sons; Newtess L. James of Wixon, Michigan and Arthur E. James of Memphis; a step-son, Hester L. Tackett of Denton; four daughters, Mrs. Jewell D. Ivey of Grapeland, Texas, Mrs. Wanda Hearst, Erie, Michigan; Mrs. Mary McGregor and Mrs. Glenda McPherson, both of Denton; 20 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one half brother, Homer James of Van Nuys, California; two sisters, Mrs. Rosa Heathcock and Mrs. Polly Schultz, both of Denton; one half sister, Mrs. Artie Gowan, of Denton and one step-sister, Mrs. Della Brumley of Denton.

Mrs. Mary Ellen James, 82, died January 25, 1980, at the Chickasawba Hospital in Blytheville. She was born January 5, 1898, at Birmingham, Ala., the daughter of the late Louis Draper Lou Ella Randolph Draper.
Mrs. James was united in marriage to W.A. James at Caruthersville in September, 1920. Her husband and two children preceded her in death.
She leaves two sons, N.L. James of Pasadena, Texas and Art James of Sikeston; four daughters: Mrs. Jewel Dean Ivy of Lufkin, Texas; Mrs. Wanda Hearst of Erie, Mich.; Mrs. Mary McGregor of Snow Lake, Ark.; and Mrs. Glenda Horn of Upland, Calif.
She also leaves a step-son, Hess Tackett of Steele; a sister, Mrs. Edna Goodman, of Steele; 20 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Sunday, January 27, 1980, at the General Baptist Church in Denton with the Rev. Larry Rouse officiating.
Pallbearers were Oscar Whittington, Jr., Bynum Hester, L.J. Ledbetter, Eugene Kellems, Jr., Verlon Green and Burnis Stanfield.
Burial was in the Mount Zion Cemetery in Steele with the John W. German Funeral Home of Steele in charge of arrangements.
