Funeral services for Mrs. Evelyn James wre held Wednesday, February 9, 1983 at 2;00 p.m. in the German-Aumone Funeral Home Chapel in Steele. Rev. Harvey Purdue officiated.

Mrs. James was born March 17, 1922 in Bells, Tennessee, and died February 6, 1983 at the Methodist Hospital in Memphis. She was 60.

She leaves her husband, Chester James of the home in Hayti; three daughters: Bonita Manley of Hayti, Nita Ferrell of Memphis, and Kay Tucker of Kennett; two sisters, Fay Frazier of Memphis and Jean Wagster of Kennett; one brother, James Glenn of Little Rock; 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Chris Wells, O.T. Sides, Lawrence Chidester, Odell Bell, Leonard Plunkett, and Steve Swain.

Burial was in the Mount Zion Cemetery in Steele with the German-Aumon Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Chester James, 88, of Portageville, Mo., died Tuesday, September 9, 2003 at the Methodist Hospital in Germantown, Tenn.

Born Sunday, August 29, 1915 in Pemiscot County, Mo., he was the son of the late Jim James and Birdie Pruitt James. He was also preceded in death by one grandson, Tracy Tucker.

Chester was united in marriage to Mary Evelyn Glenn on August 3, 1940 in Caruthersville, Mo. She preceded him in death.

He was a retired butcher and of the Pentecostal faith.

Mr. James leaves three daughters: Bonita McCoy of Portageville, Nita Ferrell of Bartlett, Tenn., and Kay Tucker of Memphis, Tenn.; ten grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Graveside services for Mr. James were held at 12:00 p.m., Thursday, September 11, 2003, at the Mount Zion Cemetery in Steele with Rev. Elzie Danley officiating.

Bradshaw-Powell Funeral Home of Steele was in charge of services.

Pallbearers were Sherman Manley, Jr., Sherman Manley, III, Ricky Bell, Mark Manley, Jeff Wagster and Keith Ferrell.
