Funeral services for Charles P. Brotherton, Sr., 83, West Plains, will be at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, July 9, 2011 in the Rose Chapel, Robertson-Drago Funeral Home.
Mr. Brotherton died 4:55 a.m., Thursday, July 7, 2011 in Ozarks Medical Center. He was born July 6, 1928 at West Plains, Missouri to Gurdine and Velma Gilson Brotherton. He received his education in the schools of West Plains, Missouri and on December 10, 1948, was married at Mountain View, Missouri to Ina Lee Irvin who preceded him in death on October 6, 1994. To this union, five children were born. Mr. Brotherton moved to Grand Rapids, Michigan in 1949 where he gained employment at Steel-Case Manufacturing. He retired from Steel-Case in 1974; the family returned to West Plains and for many years, Mr. Brotherton operated an upholstery business. He was a long time member of the Am Vets and the Elks Lodge, both of West Plains. Many West Plains residents will remember Mr. Brotherton by his large garden on Missouri Avenue, in which he took such great pride. He was a member of the United Freewill Baptist Church of West Plains.
He is survived by five children, Connie Wigginton, husband, Larry, Sherry Collins, Charles P. Brotherton, Jr., wife, Jackie, David Brotherton, all of West Plains and Dennis Brotherton, wife, Darla, Swifton, Arkansas; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; two brothers, James Brotherton and Ralph Brotherton, wife, Carol, both of the State of Michigan; brother-in-law, Bill Irvin, West Plains; and several nieces and nephews.
His grandparents, parents, wife, one son-in-law, Don Collins and nine brothers and sisters precede him in death.
Mr. Brotherton will lie in state from noon Friday until service time at Robertson-Drago Funeral Home. Burial will be at Howell Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Family and left at Robertson-Drago Funeral Home.
