Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon for J.D. Anderson, 80, at the Baptist Church in Steele conducted by Rev. D.K. Foster, pastor of the Baptist church of Caruthersville, and assisted by Rev. J.W. Cunningham, pastor of the local church. Interment was in the Mt. Zion Cemetery with the Steele I.O.O.F. Lodge in charge.
OBITUARY
John Davis Anderson was born June 21, 1862 in Forsythe County, Georgia, and departed this life on December 25, 1942, age 80 years, 6 months, 4 days.
He was united in matrimony to Mary Elizabeth Vaughn in the year 1881. She preceded him in death on June 20, 1938.
To this union five children were born, of which four still survive. One son preceded him in death in the year 1907. Those surviving are Mrs. Sallie Anderson of Steele, Lonnie D. Anderson of Steele, Mrs. C.B. Bryant of Caruthersville and Mrs. Estelle Merritt of Atlanta, Georgia. Twenty grandchildren, thirty-two great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren, also survive.
Two brothers, J.W. Anderson and E.L. Anderson and two sisters, Mrs. J.N. Fowler and Mrs. J.M. Westbrook, all of Georgia, mourn his death.
Mr. Anderson united with the Baptist Church at the age of 18 years and had been a loyal member since that time, having served a number of years as deacon. He has also been a member of the I.O.O.F. Lodge for the past forty-two years, and was the oldest member of Steele Lodge, and very active as long as his health permitted. He had been a blacksmith in Steele for twenty-two years.

Steele, Mo.--Funeral services were held here Wednesday afternoon for Mrs. John D. Anderson, who died at her home in this city Monday afternoon of uremic poisoning. The services were conducted from the home by Rev. D.K. Foster, pastor of the Caruthersville Baptist Church, and interment was in the Mt. Zion cemetery.
Mrs. Anderson, who was 83 years of age, took suddenly ill Sunday. Her husband had been called to Atlanta, Ga., by the serious illness and death of his brother and was at his brother's funeral when he received the message of his wife's serious illness. She died before he and his daughter arrived here.
Mrs. Anderson was born in Atlanta, Ga., Nov. 16, 1858. She and Mr. Anderson had been married 56 years and had resided in Steele since 1916. She had been a member of the Baptist Church for 37 years.
Surviving are her husband, one son, L.D. Anderson of Steele, three daughters, Mrs. Sallie Anderson of Steele, Mrs. Maude Merrett of Atlanta, Ga., and Mrs. Mae Odell Bryant of Caruthersville. There are 19 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. Millie Pruitt of Woodstock, Ga., and two brothers, W.H. Vaughn of Steele and J.O. Vaughn of Morgan, Ga.
