W. M. Brown died on July 4, 1899. He was born in North Carolina Jan. 10, 1815.
He left there in 1836 and settled in Ozark county, Mo., in 1837. Married Miss Ruth McCurry 10 1839. In 1853 he moved to Newton county where he has since resided. His wife died in 1857 leaving three children, Elizabeth, H. W., and Gabe.
He remarried to Mrs. P. A. Kerr in 1867. He left his estate by will to his heirs giving each 80 acres of land.
In early life he made a profession of religion, joined the Primitive Baptist church and was baptized in the Columbia river before he came west. He spent his entire life for the good and comfort of his children. He revisited his father one time, riding 1,100 miles on horseback. Died..
