Gabe McClain Brown, son the late William and Ruth Brown, was born January 5 1857 in Newton county, Mo., south of Granby where he lived most of life. He attended school at Springfield, Mo. during the Civil War, returning home with his father, sister and brother.

When he was through school, he returned home and took up farming the present home place. On April 10, 1892, he was married to Lucy J. Hester. To this union seven children were born. Three preceded him in death,
One in infancy, H. H. Brown in 1935, and a daughter, Ivel, in February, 1936.

Gabe McClain Brown died at his home south of Granby Thursday evening, September 22. Had he lived until his next birthday, he would have been 93 years old. the family cemetery near the home, under the direction of the Culver-Shewmake Funeral Home of [Granby] Branby.

Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Lucy Brown; two sons, W. H. Brown, Rt. 1, [Granby] Branby, and Heber Brown of the home: two daughters, Mrs. Clifford Patton, Rt. 1 Granby and Irma Brown of the home; four grandchildren,

The many deeds of kindness are appreciated during his last illness.
