Funeral services for Dr. Lawrence E. Cooper of Ft. Myers, Fla., is to be conducted today, Thursday, June 28, at 2:00 p.m. at the Holly Grove Baptist Church in Cooter with the Rev. James McCrary officiating.
Born June 28, 1893, in Cooter, Dr. Cooper died June 25, 1973 in Ft. Myers. He was the son of the late Dr. T.S. and Almeda Cooper.
He leaves his widow, Ethel McCann Cooper of Ft. Myers, Fla., and a brother, Paul Cooper of Cooter.
A son, Dr. Lawrence E. Cooper, Jr., preceded him in death in 1945.
Dr. Cooper practiced medicine in Cooter for 30 years. He was a graduate of Tulane University in 1916. He retired in 1945 and for the past 27 years has made his home in Ft. Myers.
He held a lifetime membership in the Steele Rotary club.
Burial will be in Mt. Zion Cemetery. German-Aumon Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Pallbearers will be Kenneth Lawler, Kenneth Berry, Marvin Childers, Lemond Thompson, Ray McCann and Charles McCann. [Steele Enterprise, Steele, Missouri, Jun 28, 1973]

Funeral services for Capt. Lawrence E. Cooper, Jr., 27, were conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at the First Baptist Church in Cooter, Mo., by the Rev. Marvin Niblack, pastor. His parents, Dr. and Mrs. L.E. Cooper live at Cooter.
Captain Cooper's body was returned from a United States Military Cemetery in Bavaria for re-burial in the United States. He was drowned, June 6, 1945, after hostilities had ceased. He was at Hohenbrunn, Germany, on leave after completing a sanitary inspection for a new location for his unit, when he was drowned. He had been battalion surgeon with the 262nd Ordnance Battalion since October 17, 1943. He was recommended for the soldier's medal shortly before his death.
Captain Cooper graduated from Cooter High School and received his B.A. and M.D. degrees form Vanderbilt University, and planned to return from service to practice medicine at Cooter.
Captain Cooper entered service in July, 1943, and was overseas the greater part of that time, serving in the European Theater of Operations.
Pallbearers were: Chester Gestring, Lois Gestring, Gray Hopper, Lawrence Coleman, Alton and Ray McCann. The German Undertaking Company was in charge of arrangements. [The Steele Enterprise, Steele, Missouri, Apr 8, 1949]
Memorial in Europe Honors Cooter Doctor
Capt. Lawrence Cooper, Jr., who was accidentally drowned at Kastenseeon, Germany, June 6, 1945, and the marker was erected by the 262nd Ordnance Bn to commemorate their beloved doctor.
A picture of the monument was sent to Dr. and Mrs. L.E. Cooper by the commanding officer of the company of which Capt. Cooper was a member. It had been erected in memory of the young doctor who had meant so much to both officers and enlisted men of the unit he served so faithfully. [The Steele Enterprise, Steele, Missouri, Nov 8, 1945]

Mrs. Ethel Cooper, wife of the late Dr. Lawrence E. Cooper, died April 23, 1978, at Lee Memorial Hospital in Ft. Myers, Fla.
Mrs. Cooper was born October 27, 1894, in Cooter and had been a Florida resident since retirement.
She leaves a sister, Mrs. Myrtle Allen, of Ft. Myers.
Services were conducted at Holly Grove Baptist Church in Cooter on April 27 at 2:00 p.m., Rev. Joe Smith officiating.
Pall bearers were Alton McCann, Ray McCann, Charles McCann, Kenneth Lawler, Kenneth Berry, Marvin childers and Dale Gesko.
Burial was in Mt. Zion Cemetery with German-Aumon Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. [Steele Enterprise, Steele, Missouri, May 4, 1978]
