Graveside services for Mr. Azel R. King, 79, of McAlester, Okla., were held Saturday, May 26, 1990 at 4:00 p.m. at Mount Zion Cemetery. The Rev. John E. Dunavant, pastor of the First Baptist Church in Holland, officiated. Arrangements were made by Mill Funeral Home of McAlester, and local arrangements were made by the Bradshaw German-Aumon Funeral Home.

Mr. King died Wednesday, May 23, 1990 at McAlester Regional Hospital. Born May 27, 1910 in Holland, he married Bethel McCormick on December 28, 1932 in Memphis. He moved to near McAlester in 1973 from Carlsbad, N.M. He was a graduate of Arkansas State University in Jonesboro and taught in the state operated schools in Alaska for 11 years and also taught several years previously in the States. A member of the Clear Lake Baptist Church near Blytheville, he was a veteran of the U.S. Army.

He leaves his wife, Bethel M. King, of McAlester; one daughter, Cheryl Sue Berens of Anchorage, Alaska, one son-in-law, James J. Berens of Anchorage; two granddaughters, Lori Sue Royce of Renton, Wash., and Valerie Lynn Lewis of Crescent City, Calif.; three great-granddaughters, Nicole Sue, Jamie Lynn and Alizaire Deaun; and a number of cousins.

Bethel King, 88, of McAlester, Okla., died recently.

Born June 19, 1911 in Holland, Mo., she was the daughter of the late Cleveland Justice McCormick and Minnie Ethel White McCormick.

She graduated from Holland High school and attended Southern Baptist College in Bolivar, Mo., and graduated from Arkansas State University in Jonesboro, Ark.

Bethel was united in marriage to Azel King on December 28, 1932. He preceded her in death.

She was a retired school teacher and a member of the First Baptist Church in McAlester.

Mrs. King leaves one daughter, Cheryl Berens and her husband, James J. Berens, of Oakland, Oregon; two granddaughters: Lori Sue Royce of Seattle, Wash., and
Valerie Stilwell of Eugene, Oregon; three great-granddaughters: Nicole Fix, Jamie Fix and Alizaire Lewis; one sister, Cora Foster, of Iowa; and four brothers: Charles Stanley McCormick of St. Louis, Mo., Dr. C.J. McCormick of Monet, Mo., Joe McCormick of Atlanta, Ga., and Bud McCormick of Montgomery, Ala.
