JOE BYRON HOLLY, SR. DIES IN BLYTHEVILLE HOSPITAL AFTER LENGTHY ILLNESS
Joe Byron Holly, Sr., of Holland, passed away at the Blytheville Hospital Monday morning at eleven o'clock, after several months illness. He had been in the hospital for almost all of that time.
Mr. Holly, who was 47 years, 9 months and 27 days of age, was a prominent landowner of Pemiscot County, and had owned and operated the Holly Gin Company at Cooter for many years. All his life was lived in the Holland and Cooter community. He was a member of the Holland Methodist Church, and until the past few months had been active in church, civic and school activities. Until his health failed he was an avid sportsman.
Funeral services were held at the Methodist Church in Holland, Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 with the pastor, Rev. Marvin Niblack officiating. The Holly Grove Baptist Church choir from Cooter was in charge of the song service. Interment was in the Mt. Zion Cemetery, with German Funeral Home in charge.
Active pallbearers were his nephews, Jerry Franklin, Ralph Pinton, Finis Holmes, Joe Coleman, Kenneth Berry and Pinnell Capehart. Honorary pallbearers were Virgil Jones, Andrew Jenkins, Able Rushing, Ralph Rushing, Euel Samford, Lee Ashcraft, O.D. Bond, W.E. Bond, Floyd Smith and Beaumont Smith.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Genevieve Coleman Holly; one son, Joe Byron, Jr.; a daughter, Nancy Kay Holly of Holland; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. W.N. Holly; and a sister, Mrs. Lewis Lester, all of Cooter, and a sister, Mrs. Evelyn Smith of Steele; and a brother, Buell (Bud) Holly of Colorado Springs, Colo.
