Graveside services for Hazel A. Mahan Brown Smith, 93, West Plains, Missouri, will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, June 12, 2017 at Howell Memorial Park Cemetery, under the direction of Robertson-Drago Funeral Home.
Mrs. Smith passed away at 9:34 p.m., Wednesday, June 7, 2017 at Ozarks Medical Center.
She was born August 1, 1923, at West Plains, Missouri, to Everett “Pop” Mahan and Edith Cleveland Mahan. She was married in 1938 to J. W. “Bill” Brown and to this union Patricia Brown North was born; they were married until his death. On November 28, 1968, she was married at Piedmont, Missouri, to Eugene “Gene” Willis Smith, who preceded her in death on March 15, 1993. Mrs. Smith drove a school bus for thirty-three years in Van Buren and West Plains and was a bowling instructor at Imperial Bowl, where she won many trophies. She loved being with her family, especially watching her grandsons race stock cars; she loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren very much and spoiled them. Hazel loved hunting, fishing and anything outside; she could out shoot any man around. She also enjoyed oil painting and giving her paintings to her family. She will be remembered as a very spunky lady who often said she would out live them all.
She is leaving her daughter, Pat North; three grandchildren, Jeff North and wife, Shannon and Scott North and wife, Chantel and Lora Alexander and husband, Bryan; four great-grandchildren, Dallas North, Myer North, Austin Bogart and Lakin Bogart; one great-great-grandchild, Maci; and several nieces and nephews.
Her parents, husbands, son-in-law, Duane North, three brothers, Burl, Orval and Wendal Mahan, three sisters-in-law, June, Betty and Juanita Mahan; nephew, Dwayne Mahan and niece, Peggy Mahan, precede her in death.
Memorial contributions may be made to the West Plains Regional Animal Shelter and may be left at Robertson-Drago Funeral Home
