Veta Viola Brown, of Willow Springs, passed away late Sunday night, November 5, 2017, while at Willow Care Nursing Home due to natural causes.
Born June 10, 1917 to Charles Madison & Myrtle N. (Bell) Loyd in Douglas County (Topaz); she was 100 years old.
Veta grew up in the Mount Ararat community and attended school in a two-room schoolhouse; it was in this small community she met the love of her life, Ralph Brown. They were married in 1935, and to this union one daughter was born. Veta and Ralph celebrated 65 years together until his passing in the year 2000. She was employed as chief grower at Faust Greenhouse for more than twenty years. She also worked at the Sears Catalog Store in Willow Springs, with her daughter and son-in-law Faye and Carlyle Walker. Veta had many enjoyments in life which included sewing; she was an accomplished seamstress and made clothing for her family for many years. She also loved cooking for her family and excelled in baking. She was well-known for her pies, and made a variety of them, however, her favorites were coconut cream and lemon. Veta was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Willow Springs where she and Ralph attended faithfully for many years.
Veta is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and 6 siblings.
She is survived by her daughter, Faye Walker and her husband, Carlyle of Willow Springs; three grandchildren, Cindy Hinds and her husband, Kelly, also of Willow Springs; Debbie Biehl and her husband, Tom of LeHigh Acres, FL, and David Walker and his wife, Beth of Willow Springs. She is also survived by four great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren. Further surviving is a brother, Paul Loyd, also of Willow Springs, as well as several nieces and nephews.
The family has asked that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made in Veta's name to First Baptist Church and may be left at the funeral home.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 9, 2017 at 1:00 pm at First Baptist Church, located at 5th & Harris streets in Willow Springs with the funeral service immediately following at 2:00 pm. Interment will follow at the Willow Springs City Cemetery, with Pastor Joel Hinds officiating.
