Roy "Ross" Thompson, 85, of rural Steele, died Thursday at Pemiscot County Memorial Hospital. Born July 30, 1899 in Savannah, Tenn., he was the son of John and Jennie Sanders Thompson. He was a retired farmer.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Matilda Thompson of rural Steele; Four daughters, Mrs. Edna Everly of West Covina, Calif., and Mrs. June Hunter, Mrs. Jennie Chambers and Mrs. Gwendolyn Dye, all of Haleyville, Ala.; Four sons, Lee Thompson of Hamilton, Ind., and Joe, Wayne and Gary Thompson, all of Steele; Two sisters, Mrs. Blanch Alexander of Detroit and Mrs. Alma McMahon of St. Louis; One brother, Willie Thompson of Kerman, Calif.; Fourteen grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Services were Saturday at 2 p.m. at John W. German Funeral Home chapel in Steele, the Rev. Billy Skinner officiating, with burial in Mt. Zion Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Truman Larue, Harry Smith, Carl Dye, Jim Whitehed, Jimmy Cecil, Billy Williams and Do Barnard.

Mrs. Matilda Ann Thompson, 76, of Haleyville, Ala., widow of Mr. Ross Thompson, died November 11, 1987 at Haleyville, Ala. at the Burdick West Hospital. She was born December 15, 1910 in Tennessee and was united in marriage to Ross Thompson at Savannah, Tenn., December 21, 1932.
She leaves four sons: Lee Edward Thompson of Plymouth, Ind., Joe Thompson of Steele, Mo., Wayne Thompson of Haleyville, Ala., and Gary Thompson of Steele; Four daughters: Mrs. Edith Everely of West Covina, Calif., and Mrs. June Hunter, Mrs. Jenny Chambers and Mrs. Gwen Dye, all of Haleyville; Two sisters: Mrs. Gladys Crowell and Mrs. Iva Ellis, both of Henderson, Tenn.; one brother: Raymond Turner of Henderson; 14 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Friday, November 13, 1987 at the John W. German Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Drrrell Commens of Haleyville officiating. Burial was at Mt. Zion Cemetery at Steele with John W. (German)Funeral Home of Steele in charge.
Pallbearers were: Truman Larue, Billy Williams, J.W. Neil, Carl Johnson, Charles McClanahan and Bobby Powell.
