Democrat Argus - Caruthersville, Missouri - Friday, March 4, 1924:
Mrs. Mary Caroline Thompson, wife of J.W. Thompson, was born February 26, 1867 and departed this life February 27, 1924, aged 57 years and one day. Sister Thompson united with the Christian church at Brookport, Ill., at the age of 15 years. She was united in marriage to J.W. Thompson, January 17, 1887, to which union was born ten children, eight of who survives, as follows: Louis of Tyler, Mo.; Grover, Armorel, Ark., Carl of Sikeston, Mo., Russell of Steele, Mo.; John and Ernest at home and two daughters, Mrs. Ida Chafin of Arkansas and Madie, of Cooter, Mo. Sister Thompson was a good wife, mother, neighbor and friend. She lived a good life and died the death of the righteous and left behind her a more sacred inheritance than worthy riches. Her friends were conducted by her acquaintances. The great throng attending the funeral was a testimony of the esteem in which she was held. It was the largest throng of any attending a funeral here for many a day. Services were held in the Baptist church at Cooter, conducted by the Rev. W.F. Hudson, who spoke many words of comfort and consolation to those left behind.
