Mrs. Effie Vater Thompson, 96, of Perryville, formerly of Steele, died June 7, 1992, at Perry County Hospital. Born June 21, 1895 in Henderson, Tenn., she was the daughter of Sylvester and Nancy Gurley. She was a member of Boon's Chapel Church of Christ and the widow of Carl Thompson.
She is survived by three daughters, Louise Sipes of Bolivar, Tenn., Lucille Lair of Perryville and Faye Troyer of Goshen, Ind.; two sons, James Wilson Thompson of Detroit and Ernest Thompson of Caruthersville; two sisters, Vessie Howell and Callie McCall, both of Lexington, Tenn.; 21 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren and 16 great-great grandchildren.
Three daughters and two sons also preceded her in death.
Services were June 10 at 10:30 a.m. at Bradshaw German-Aumon Funeral Home chapel in Steele, Bill Lovelace officiating, with burial in Mt. Zion Cemetery.
Pallbearers were grandsons: Alton, Benny Ray and Jimmy Thompson, Steven, Wayne and Wiliferd Lair, Jr. and Larry and David Sipes.
