Funeral services for Mrs. Irene Johnson, 77, were held Monday, January 11, at 3:30 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Steele. Rev. James F. McCrary and Rev. Paul York officiated.
Mrs. Johnson was born December 10, 1904 in Hayti and died January 8, 1982, at the Pemiscot County Medical Center in Hayti. She was a member of The Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church of Steele.
She was the daughter of the late William B. York and Mattie Dewey York.
Mrs. Johnson leaves one son, Charles York Johnson of Key West, Florida;
One daughter, Mrs. Bonnie Gilbert of Steele;
One son-in-law, Eddie Gilbert of Steele;
Two granddaughters, Kim Gilbert and Teresa Gilbert of Steele; and
One sister, Mrs. Willie Frazier of Steele,
Pallbearers were Mitchell Fisher, Reginald Watkins, Thelbert Bishop, Elvis Robinson, Gary Robinson, and Steve Robinson.
Burial was in the Mt. Zion Cemetery near Steele with the John W. German Funeral Home of Steele in charge.
