Shirley Moran Smith died at Kennedy Veterans Administration Hospital in Memphis on July 12, 1961. He was 66 years, 4 months and 11 days of age.

Mr. Smith, a retired barber, was well known to citizens of this community. He was a member of the Steele Lodge Number 634, A.F. and A.M.

A veteran of World War I, he served in Company B, 139th Infantry, U.S. Army.

He was born in Brighton, Tenn., April 1, 1895.

Funeral services were from the First Baptist Church, Steele, Friday, July 14, 1961 at 4:00 p.m. with Rev. James F. McCrary, pastor, officiating.

Interment was in Mt. Zion Cemetery with Masonic Graveside services. John W. German Mt. Zion Chapel was in charge of services.

Survivors are two daughters, Mrs. Thomas R. Frakes, Winter Haven, Fla., Mrs. Gene G. Fry, Winter Haven, Fla., a brother, Floyd Smith of Steele; a sister, Mrs. D. L. Potts of Steele,and two grandchildren in addition to other relatives and friends.

Pall bearers were Fred Kelley, Jack Dowdy, Carl Sheeley, P.G. Morgan, Jack Manning and Frank Wisdom.
