Girtha Frances Smith, 93, of Poplar Bluff, Mo., formerly of Steele, Mo., died Wednesday, February 2, 1994, at Cedargate Nursing Home in Poplar Bluff.
Born December 14, 1900, she was a daughter of the late Gray and Bell Todd Douglas.
On July 4, 1917 at Lexington, Tenn., Mrs. Smith was united in marriage with Virdie B. Smith, who preceded her in death.
One brother, Carl Douglas, and three sisters: Lida Dodd, Nella Todd and Wilma Morris, also preceded her in death.
A Baptist, she was a homemaker.
Mrs. Smith leaves two sons: Virgil G. Smith of Canyon Lake, Texas and Willie Ray Smith of Caruthersville, Mo.; Five daughters: Annie L. Kelley of Wappapello, Mo., Pauline Dodd of Poplar Bluff, Marie Lawson of Cherry Valley, Ark., Norma Jean Gongales of Delano, Calif. and Mary Lucille Tomlinson of Poplar Bluff;
A sister, Dessie Darnall, of Steele;
Eighteen grandchildren; Seventeen great-grandchildren; and Six great-great-grandchildren.
Graveside services for Mrs. Smith were held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 5, 1994, at Mt. Zion Cemetery in Steele, with Rev. Lindell Cox officiating.

Funeral services were held Monday, December 27, at 2:00 p.m., at the German-Aumon Funeral Home Chapel in Steele for Virdie B. Smith. Rev. Lindell Cox officiated.
Mr. Smith was born August 1, 1896, in Yuma, Tennessee, and died December 26, 1982, at the Chickasawba Hospital in Blytheville at 86. He was a retired farmer and had been a resident of the Steele area for 43 years.
He leaves his wife, Girtha Douglas Smith of the home; Two sons, Virgil Smith of Weslaco, Texas, and Willie Ray Smith of Caruthersville; Five daughters, Annie Kelley of Steele, Pauline Dodd of Bloomdale, Missouri, Marie Lawson of Vandale, Arkansas, Jean Gonzales of Lindsey, California, and Mary Tomlinson of Kirskville, Missouri; and Twentyone grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.
Burial was in the Mt. Zion Cemetery in Steele with the German-Aumon Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
