Two Cooter youths, Eugene Bibbs and Lawrence Smith, both 18, lost their lives early Sunday morning from monoxide poisoning in a trailer house near Gobler, Mo., according to reports to relatives here. It was believed they had been dead for several hours when their bodies were found by their employer, Raymond Bryan, and a brother of one of the boys, Luther Smith, about 2 p.m. Sunday.
The boys had helped Mr. Bryan, owner of a tent show, to move his equipment from Pascola Saturday night, where he had put on a show, to Gobler, where he planned to show Sunday night. On their arrival at Gobler about 3:30 a.m. Sunday Mr. Bryan and his daughter Madeline and Luther Smith returned to their homes at Cooter, leaving the two boys to look after the equipment at Gobler. It is believed they made a fire in a charcoal bucket inside the trailer and closed the door tightly, falling asleep on the tent which had been loaded into the trailer. Asphyxiation followed and they never awoke it was apparent.
Both boys made their home with Lawrence Smith's parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Smith, at Oak Ridge. Ed Gibbs, father of Eugene, the dead youth, formerly lived at Cooter, but now resides near Memphis. In addition to their parents, both are survived by several brothers and sisters.
Funeral services for young Smith were held at No. 8 Tuesday morning, with interment in the No. 8 cemetery. Services for the Bibbs youth were held at his former home in Tennessee, with interment there beside his mother.
