Mrs. Lillian Smith, 68, of Steele was born to the late Janie Ruth Smith and Johnny Smith in Webb, Miss., on May 25, 1945. She passed away on Friday, April 25, 2014 in Cape Girardeau.

She accepted Christ into her life at an early age. Later she joined the Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church in Steele, where she was a faithful member for 45 years. Lillian later joined the New St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church in Blytheville under the leadership of Pastor Clark Phillips.

Lillian was a loving and caring person, which led her into the field of care-giving. For many years, she was a caregiver to the elderly when they needed her the most. She was also employed by Borg Warner and Emerson Electric for many years.

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by two sisters, Estella Allen and Berta Mae Spearman; one niece, Jessica Allen; and one nephew, Anthony Spearman.

Mrs. Smith is survived by one sister, Geraldine McGee of Steele; one brother, Woodrow Spearman, Jr., of Oakland, Calif; one nephew, Christopher McGee of Steele; two nieces: Valarie Brumfield and her husband, Marschell, of Sacramento, Calif., and Yolanda Todd and her husband, Orlando, of Stockton, Calif.; one great-nephew, Marschell Brumfield, II of Sacramento; one great-niece, Dasjanaie Marie Todd of Stockton; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 3, 2014 at Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church in Steele with Pastor Clark Phillips officiating. A visitation was held from 10 a.m. that day until the time of service. Interment was in Mount Zion Cemetery in Steele. Eddie Rogers, Jerome Finley, John McKinney, Robert Cooper, Anthony Hughes, and Bernard Mitchell served as pallbearers.

Powell Funeral Home of Steele was in charge of arrangements.
