One year ago last May he began to go down the hill of life and though all medical aid possible for his relief was rendered, he gradually grew worse and the end has been expected for several days.

Mr. Smith, who was the father of a large family all of whom survive, except one child, who died many years ago, was a farmer and always a hard working man until old age and disease caused him a physical break-down. At the time of his death he was seventy years, three months and twenty-nine days of age, having lived a little past the allotted time of three score and ten years.

Besides his widow, Ida, he leaves five boys and two girls to mourning his passing. The boys are: Gracie, Glenn and Shirley, who are barbers, Hayes works for L. W. Weaver and Floyd, who is in the employee of Mr. Joe Burns.

One married daughter, Mrs. Gertrude Glass of Covington, Tennessee, and Miss Mable, who works for Mr. Sam Hamra. He also leaves three brothers, two sisters and thirteen grandchildren.

Mr. Smith united with the Baptist church about forty years ago and up until his illness prevented he was a regular attendant at services.

The funeral was held at 2:00 o'clock this afternoon at the home with the Rev. D. K. Foster, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Caruthersville, saying the last rites. The body was laid to its final resting place in the Holly Cemetery with the Steele Undertaking Company in charge.
