Virgil Ivan Jones Sr., 89, of Sikeston, MO. died Friday, Aug. 22, 2008, in Cape Girardeau.
He was born July 30, 1919, in Okolona, Ark., son of William Ivan and Stella Robertson Jones. He and Sarah Gwendolyn Frazier were married Nov. 11, 1939, in Cape Girardeau.
Jones had farmed and was a member of Holly Grove Baptist Church at Cooter, Mo.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Virgil Jones Jr. of Cape Girardeau; three daughters, Nita Brackin of Cape Girardeau, Deborah Burress of Davenport, Fla., Sara Grombowski of Washougal, Wash.; a brother, Ralph Jones of Utah; a sister, Lilla Fluty of Sebring, Fla.; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
The funeral was Monday at Powell Funeral Home in Steele, Mo., with the Rev. Dave Lewelling officiating. Burial was in Mount Zion Cemetery at Steele.
