William Ivan Jones, age 64 years, 9 months and 3 days, died at the Blytheville Hospital Saturday night at approximately 10:30. He had a sudden heart attack while attending the Rodeo in Cooter and lived only a short while after arrival at the hospital.

Mr. Jones, a prominent retired farmer, had been in poor health for some time and had had several attacks previously but his condition had not seemed any worse. He was one of the leaders in getting the Rodeo at Cooter this year and spent most of the day Saturday at the arena helping in any way he could.

Mr. Jones was born at Gurdon, Arkansas, where he married Stella Robertson on December 31, 1911. One child, Arless died in infancy. The Jones family moved to Cooter in November, 1953, and since that time Mr. Jones has helped in many activities for the betterment of his fellow man.
He had been a member of the Modern Woodmen Lodge for years. Besides farm interests he has also operated a grocery store at Cooter.

Funeral services were held at the Holly Grove Baptist Church Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 with the pastor, Rev. W. E. Hall officiating. He was assisted by Rev. Marvin Niblack, pastor of the Methodist Church at Steele and Cooter. Interment was in the Mt. Zion Cemetery with German Funeral Home in charge.

Honorary pall bearers were Dr. L.L. Hubener, Blytheville, Charles Bates and Gene Polk of Steele, W.N. Holly, Gus Cooper, and Euel Samford of Cooter.

Active pall bearers were Paul Cooper, Ray Pugh, Paul Lynn, J. W. Neil and Hal Rhea of Cooter and Pee Wee Cope of Steele.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Stella Jones and two sons, Arnold and Virgil Jones of Cooter and another son, Ralph Jones, of Iran, two daughters, Mrs. Frances Cox of Etowah, Arkansas and Mrs. Lilla Lee Fluty of Troy, Ohio; 14 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; two brothers, Claude Jones of Steele and L. N. Jones, Jr. of Cooter; four sisters, Mrs. J. H. Gatright, Tyler, Texas, Mrs. Jesse Wingfield, Steele, Mrs. Lottie Clark and Mrs. Earl Allen of Gurdon, Arkansas.

Stella Jones Crouch was born October 12, 1894 at Okolona, Arkansas, and died May 21, 1986, at Twin Rivers Medical Center in Arkadelphia, Arkansas. She was 91.

She was united in marriage to William Ivan Jones on December 31, 1911, who preceded her in death on May 11, 1957. Surviving her from this union are three sons: Arnold Jones of Cooter, Virgil Jones of Tucson, Arizona and Cooter, and Ralph Jones of Concord, California, and two daughters, Frances Cobb of Okolona, Arkansas and Lilla Fluty of Delaware, Ohio. She was united in marriage to Edgar L. Crouch on January 1, 1965 on December 23, 1978.

She is also survived by one sister, Bessie McCauley of Gurdon, Arkansas, 17 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and 13 great-great grandchildren; a step-son, Wayne Crouch, and a step-daughter-in-law, Margaret Crouch, of West Memphis, AR.

Following a memorial service on Friday, May 23, in Arkadelphia, Arkansas, funeral services were held on Saturday, May 24 at Holly Grove Baptist Church in Cooter, Missouri. Pallbearers were: Gene Wingfield, Sherley Lovins, Bobby Robinson, Elvis Robinson, Fred Burress and Pete Brackin. Burial was at Mt. Zion Cemetery, Steele. German-Aumon Funeral Home was in charge of services.
