Benny Ray Jones, 65, of Steele, died Wednesday, July 8, 2009 at his home.
Born October 16, 1943 in Cooter, he is the son of the late Elmer and Flossie Jones.
He was also preceded in death by two sons: Michael DeWayne Jones and Benjamin Clark Jones; two brothers, Martin Jones and Rodney Jones and two sisters, Betty Sue Crabtree and Louise Yennie.
Benny was united in marriage to Carole Anne Frame on August 7, 1965 in Cooter. He was a member of the Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church in Steele.
Benny was a graduate of Cooter High School. Early in his employment career Benny was involved in the grocery industry, working for Hays Store, National T Foods and Pickards.
Benny became interested in insurance sales and was employed by Metropolitan Life Insurance. He became the Dunklin County Farm Bureau agent and then moved on to establish Jones Insurance Company.
Benny was a contractor for residential, commercial swimming pools and landscape. He designed, maintained, and refurbished projects from Philadelpia, Pa., to Atlanta, Ga., while at the same time he founded and operated Hayti Building Supply.
In later life, when most have retired, Benny became a farmer. After ten years he retired from farming.
Being an active person, he became the Transportation and Facilities Supervisor at South Pemiscot School.
In May Benny began a new venture, Crop Inspector for Missouri Crop Improvement Association.
Benny Jones served as Alderman for the city of Steele for six years. He was a member and former President of the Mt. Zion Cemetery Board of Trustees. Benny was very patriotic, civic minded, and served his community well.
Mr. Jones leaves his wife, Carole Anne Jones, of the home; his son, Brandon Ray Jones and his wife Andrea, of Steele; three sisters: Carol Jones of Fullerton, Calif., Jeanette Pauls of Fair Grove, Mo., and Kay Miller of Steele; one brother-in-law, John Turner Frame and his wife Anne of Brentwood, Tenn.; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Mr. Jones were held at 2 p.m., Friday, July 10, 2009 at the Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church in Steele with Pastor Jan Dillard and Dr. Tony Cherry officiating.
Burial was in the Mt. Zion Cemetery in Steele with John W. German Funeral Home in charge of services.
Pallbearers were Don Rogers, Barry Ray, Gary Sanders, Joe Curry, William Barger, and Therron Nowlin.
Honorary pallbearers were Randy McDaniel, Kyle Lollar, John Spence, Carl Miller, Noel Dudley, H.W. (Buzzie) Wells, Ronnie Yarbrough, and Calvin Hickman.
